Tips to get a two year old talking

Jaiden is about 26 months old now and he still is not talking. It drives us all a little crazy sometimes becasue as we all know he tries to communicate, understands what we say and grunts at us all of the time. The only problem is his absolute lack of verbal communication in the language that we all speak at home...english.

Yesterday we all went to a speech therapist to get some ideas of what we can do to get Jaiden to start talking. It seems that his comprehension is really great for a kid his age and he has his own ways of getting his message across but we learned a few methods to make Jaiden not only know what words to use but to actually verbalize them. Here are a few:

  • Use very simple words when we talk to Jaiden and repeat them evertime we get a chance
  • When Jaiden wants something make sure that we use the words and say the words in an interesting way so that he notices it and of course keep repeating the words
  • Whenever Jaiden points at things say the word that it is and keep repeating it to him and lead him to saying it himself.
At two years old a child should have a vocabulary of 50 words even though some have a vocabulary of up to 200 words.

I guess we will be busy now teaching Jaiden to talk and should be picking up more pointers during a couple of parent classes later in November

Taylor has found a great street name

Taylor, Michelle and I are watching Gilmore Girls and Loelei mentioned a street name of Scooby Doo Lane and Taylor decided that that would be a great name for a street.

Hope she doesn't become a land developer when she gets older.

Looking for my brother Grant Nadraszky

Grant 2002.jpgI thought I would take this opportunity to ty to find my brother Grant Nadraszky. Grant was born in Richmond BC in October of 1969 and at 17 he moved to Jasper for a few years. Over the last few years he has been living in Calgary and most recently was living at his parents house. Well by recently I mean he was there until about seven months ago.

One day Grant had just had enough of Calgary and the family I guess and left. We have not seen or heard from him in seven months now and I would like to try to find him. Last I heard Grant was in Revelstoke BC or at least somewhere in BC although for all we know he may be in Calgary or Jasper again.

Grant was last driving a White Mazda 626 but as my Mom says who knows if he still has it or even if it hasn't broken down.

Anyways, if anyone knows where Grant is or even how he is doing you can email me or my family at the email link or even leave a comment on this weblog.

Hope to hear from you soon Grant...let us know you are OK.

The long weekend is over...

We had a nice Thanksgiving weekend. Taylor and I hoped to go to the Calgary Science Center to see the stars on the Friday Night Stargazing, but it starts at 9:30PM which is to late for Taylor so we decided to go Saturday to the special evening event at Fish Creek Park. Saturday night grea even with cloudy weather as they had a lot of telescopes up to look at and there were a bunch of little things for Taylor to do.

Saturday was quiet. I looked after Jaiden while Michelle & Taylor went out for the morning and Sunday we went over to Shari and Jamie Vanderkuip's (sister and brother in law) for the day and for Thanksgiving Dinner. As usual dinner was loud and crazy and even with no fights it was still a good time :) Michelle got started on updating her website and we watched Desperate Houswives and taped West Wing for me.

Yesterday was a very quiet day. I never got dressed. I helped Michelle with her scrapbooking site as well as our regular family site and Michelle took Taylor and Jaiden out for a couple hours so I could catch up on some web work. We had a quiet evening and I got everything ready to go back to work today.

All in all I am pretty happy with our weekend. It is always nice to have a turkey dinner and for me to spend time with the kids.

Knock Knock who's home?

The whole family was broken apart this weekend. Michelle was in Leduc for a Stampin' Up! seminar and Taylor had her first weekend away from home with Sparks camping which left Jaiden and I at home alone for Friday night and most of Saturday.

Michelle had a good time in Leduc but she is a little sleep deprived. Taylor had a great time away but really missed us...good thing she isn't going away again to soon. Jaiden and I had a good time together but he always seems to get his way around me no matter what he wants.

I am hoping for a good nights sleep tonight and am sure glad to have everyone back together again.
