We went on a trip to LA last month. Lots of flying, we flew to Abbotsford and dropped off the kids with Michelle's dad and Katy. The next day Michelle and I went on our first trip by ourselves together since Taylor was born 5 YEARS AGO!

We arrived in LA on Monday evening at 6:15 and got lost around LAX which has got to be the oldest airport in North America. Finally after getting a coffee and chocolate bar at two different stores only for the change for the bus we were able to get travel info from one of the people at an information booth in the International terminal.

To get to Santa Monica you take the free “C” shuttle bus to the main airport bus station. This is important as a hotel shuttle will cost $14.00 US to get out to Santa Monica. After we arrived at the LAX shuttle stop we were able to get the number 3 Santa Monica bus for 75 cents each for the 45 minute bus trip to Santa Monica and ended up at 4th Street and Santa Monica Blvd.

Of course Michelle and I did not even look into hotels so we walked around aimlessly asking hotels along the beach and fairly quickly found the Pacific Sands Motel. The hotel is OK clean and has back rooms for $65 and rooms in the main motel for $75 and is less than a block from the Santa Monica pier. One real bonus is that there is a barely heated pool so if the weather is to much you can at least get a swim in. There is a Travelodge next door but the rooms seem to be the same and it is $109 per night. Every other hotel in the close area is well over $150 per night so we feel we got a good deal. On our third day in town I saw a rezoning sign that said both motels are being torn down to make way for a new four floor hotel so after that it will be very expensive for anything in the area. To bad.

After we got into our new room we quickly dropped our bags and went for a walk down the pier, had expensive OK hot chocolate and then went back to the hotel and crashed for the night.
